omena
our programs
Preventing emotional abuse requires more than one intervention. Children need opportunities to build new skills, caregivers and educators need tools to reinforce those skills, and communities need systems that support healthy development.
Omena's model combines education, community engagement, and systems change to help children thrive before harm occurs.

GLOBAL IMPACT
Omena was founded in Madagascar, where we continue to focus our largest efforts on building long-term systems that prevent emotional abuse at scale. As a U.S.-based nonprofit in Rhode Island, we also partner with local schools and organizations to strengthen prevention efforts, generate learning, and build a stronger organization.
Together, both efforts advance one shared mission: helping children, families, and communities build healthier relationships before harm occurs.
Where it all started
Our home, Our impact, Our Purpose.
In Madagascar, an estimated 77% of children experience emotional abuse while growing up. Yet most systems focus on responding after violence has already happened.
When emotional skills aren't taught, verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse can become part of everyday life. Those patterns are often passed from one generation to the next. We believe prevention starts earlier.
That's why we've built three complementary programs that help prevent verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse before it escalates.
Together, they equip children, families, and communities with the emotional tools to build healthier relationships across generations.
